Lviv is a jewel
of architecture and sculpture, it harmoniously combines past and present in
traditions and architecture. More then 55% of all Ukrainian monuments are located in Lviv. It is a special blend
of Gothic and Baroque, Renaissance and Romanesque, Rococo and Empire, modern
eclecticism and constructivism. Great influence on culture and architecture of
the city made Austria-Hungarian Empire and Poland. Rich magnates and patrons of
XVI-XVII centuries invited talented artists from all over Europe that created a
unique architectural gem. Numerous amounts of artists breathed
in Lviv’s inspirational air. Polish, Ukrainian, Jewish,
Armenian, German, Italian and even Scottish names of cultural and religious
figures appear in Lviv's cosmopolitan history. Such a great world-wide known
artists lived and created here: Salomija Krushelnytska, Ivan Franko, Mykhailo Hrushevskiy, Maria Konopnytska, Oleksa
Novakivskiy, Alexander Fredr, Bruno Shults, Johan G. Pinzel, Leopold von
Zacher-Masoh, Stanislav Lemm, Joseph Roth and lots of other captivating names. Nowadays,
just as 750 years before, it is a multicultural city that keeps history of all
the nations, that lived here from its very beginning, in its streets’
architecture, in its culture and simple in its air. Lviv has been proclaimed as
a cultural capital of Ukraine on the 28th April 2009. Such a honorable award is
given to the city mostly because it is known as a center of artistic, literary, musical
and theatrical arts. Indisputable evidence of the cultural wealth is a large
number of theaters, concert halls, art associations, as well as numerous art
events here. Temples, murals, paintings, traditions, holidays, festivals – all
these are legacy of the past and present creatures, that can be felt only in
Lviv. The city is the number 1 tourist destination all over
Ukraine. To feel the charming spirit of the city
of Lions and taste passion of Galicia of you should walk through the narrow
streets of Old Town, around Market Square, dream in one of the cafes and see
the city from the High Castle Mountain. And then, after unhurried acquaintance
with the pearl of Western Ukraine you will feel Middle Ages mysticism and a
